WRITING IN PUBLIC

Another day on SHOTGUN GUNSLINGERS, a post-apocalyptic adventure set in the world of the Botanical Crusades. And we’re actually going to meet the titular gunslingers tomorrow. Progress: 555 words in ~30 mins. I have anticipate that the pace is going to pick up here soon, as we’ve passed the rough patch of setup and can now move on to the happy-fun-adventure-times.

Gleeful.

WRITING IN PUBLIC

Another day on SHOTGUN GUNSLINGERS, a name I’m actually getting kind of tired of because we still haven’t met the titular characters (so far as I know). Progress: 240 words in… 20ish minutes. Hard to say. Wrote sporadically on my breaks at work today.

Didn’t get any writing done yesterday. Our internet cut out for some reason, which is a fairly weak excuse, but I was going to spend time with friends and family anyway, so maybe it was all for the best.

That being said, I am suddenly aware of how close we are to the end of August. I’m nowhere near meeting my goal of five short stories written this month (obviously), but I’m also keenly aware of how much writing¬†I still have to do to finish this current story, given my pace.

It also doesn’t help, of course, that the story continues to grow while I continue having fun with it. Not a problem in the slightest, but it does put off the eventual completion of the project, which I am eagerly looking forward to.

Until next time.

WRITING IN PUBLIC

Another day on SHOTGUN GUNSLINGERS, a post-apocalyptic adventure set in the world of the Botanical Crusades. Progress: 340 words in 30 mins. I don’t much like this trickle of a few words today, a few words tomorrow, but I’ll take the slow and steady drizzling over the occasional storms of productivity. Consistency is key.

Also, I’m frankly pleased that I managed to get any writing at all done today, as I had quite a full schedule today.

Tomorrow is an open day schedule-wise, so I plan on getting a lot of writing and other tasks done tomorrow.

Until then,

WRITING IN PUBLIC

Another day of writing SHOTGUN GUNSLINGERS, a post-apocalyptic adventure set in the world of the Botanical Crusades. Progress: 350 words in 30 mins. Not quite yet back up to 1,000 per hour on Dvorak, but getting there. Speed is consistently increasing.

As far as the story itself goes, my promise of a post-apocalyptic adventure (likely, one would expect, featuring shotguns) is so far very much lacking in adventure (and shotguns), even though we’re already (ostensibly) halfway through the story wordcount-wise.

Which I don’t necessarily have a problem with. I’m really enjoying the story as it’s shaping up right now, it’s just not quite what I was expecting to write. I’m also simply anticipating the inevitable reality that this story is going to be much longer than I initially anticipated. Again, not a problem, per se, but something I need to brace myself and readjust my expectations accordingly.

WRITING IN PUBLIC

Day I-don’t-want-to-talk-about-it of writing SHOTGUN GUNSLINGERS, a post-apocalyptic adventure set in the world of the Botanical Crusades. Progress: 340 words in 30 mins.

Despite a week-long hiatus from the project, my words per hour seem to have increased. I guess I really am getting used to this new keyboard. Cool.

So, yeah. A full week of interruption. Should probably address that…

GENCON

See… my brother and I went to GenCon, the biggest board game convention in North America. We’re both big board game fans, and I’ve always wanted to go to GenCon. So when a friend of mine asked if we wanted to join his convoy going this year, my brother and I decided to do so.

In short, loads of fun. Looking forward to going again and competing in a few events.

But obviously and unfortunately, the travel cut into my writing schedule, and I’m only just now getting back to it. Sigh.

Fortunately, all my travelling is done for the year (so far as I know), and I should have the chance to get back into some kind of routine and maximize my productivity.

Until then,

WRITING IN PUBLIC

Day 8 of writing SHOTGUN GUNSLINGERS, a post-apocalyptic adventure set in the world of the Botanical Crusades. Progress: 520 words in 1 hour.

By all reasonable schedule expectations, this story should be done now. Eight days is far to much time to be spending on a single short story.

Alas, the world is not a reasonable place sometimes.

See, I live in Ferguson. So all of the recent unrest over the shooting of Michael Brown has drawn my attention quite acutely away from other matters. Such as writing. The entire situation is a terrible tragedy, and a situation that I feel wholly unqualified to speak on, even after having had several days to consider what I might say.

Mayhaps I will have something substantive to say about the matter later on. For now, however, I pray for peace and rationality in this situation, and that those who would take advantage of a chaotic time for their own selfish interests might rethink their actions.

WRITING IN PUBLIC

Day 4 of writing SHOTGUN GUNSLINGERS, a post-apocalyptic adventure set in the world of the Botanical Crusades. Progress: 1090 words in 2 hours.

Tried something new today. Got out of bed early enough to fit in a 30 min writing session before I had to leave for work. Ended up having to take an hour nap this evening. Though I expect that’s more to do with general, ongoing exhaustion from work, and not necessarily because I got out of bed a little earlier than usual.

Time and further experimentation will tell.
